5 good music apps for windows 10
Windows is a
vast platform with a huge selection of apps, and it is sometimes difficult to
know where to get the best one for you. That is certainly true of music apps,
since different types of music listeners will have different requirements.
Fortunately,
there are a lot of great apps to choose from. Here are some.
Groove music
You may have
overlooked the in- built groove music app, but you shouldn’t because it is very
good.
It looks
fantastic, very easy to use; it has minimal fluff and you get the option to
store your own music in one drive and stream it to your devices.
Groove has
come a long way since the early days. The subscription service is gone but the
app remains and is very good for your own music.
Spotify
Spotify is
probably the most popular streaming music service on the planet, and it is now
available through windows store, too.
It is the
same desktop app as it has always been, with the added bonus of seamless
updates through the store.
Not only do
you get access to spotify vast catalogue of content, as a paid or free
subscriber, but you can also use it to play your own locally stored content.
The app itself is totally free to use.
Vlc
If a format
exists, VLC can probably play the file. It is much preferred for its
reliability and multiple functionality.
VLC also
comes in two versions for windows, both free. There is the windows 10 version
which is built for phones, personal computer, tablets and Xbox one; and there
is the old-school desktop app.
VLC goes
beyond just digital files and also offers streaming support and will convert
various file formats.
FOOBAR2000
While
foobar2000 was pushing forward with a window store app to complement its
existing WIN32 offering, that project seems to have stalled thanks to low user
count. The “proper” app is still very much alive and kicking and is both
powerful and customizable.
When you set
it up, you can tweak the interface to your liking, and FOOBAR2000 will play
basically anything you can throw at it. It also has a built-in transcoder,
support for full Unicode, tags, and gapless playback.
That last
one alone is enough reasons to give it a try. It is also free.
MUSICBEE
Despite not
being a universal windows platform app for windows 10, MusicBee sports a modern
design that looks really nice. But looks are not all it has going for it.
It is easy
to move your existing music library from windows media player or iTunes with
the import feature, as well as being able to organize your podcast and audio
books.
Toss in
gapless playback, some pretty robust equalizer controls and a host of
customizations, and MusicBee very easily becomes your music player. You can
even pump the sound out of your pc in 5.1 if you have the speakers for it!
It is also
totally free. There is no reason not to like it.
